Crossing Time Zones

How do you spend more than 24 hours in one day in service to others?  We left Adrian this morning with two vehicles, 18 bags, and 9 servants at 1:30 am to join Jesus on his mission in La Paz, Honduras.  We enjoyed getting to know Pam from Pinckney, as we shared experiences with MOST Ministries.  We arrived at Detroit Metro and boarded our Delta flight for the first leg to Atlanta.  Soon, we heard from our three companions from Wisconsin that their Delta flight was delayed with mechanical issues.  Alysia gathered us for our team meeting at Atlanta, providing details about moving ahead without the three others on Friday.

Our flight to Tegucigalpa served as the longest travel experience, with our approach and landing at the airport making it clear that our months of preparation gave us sure footing for our service to Him.  We met Pastor Junior, his wife Rosa, and their son Junior at the airport.  In addition, Edwin and his son Mateo, along with driver Matthias helped us secure our bags in their green bus to travel from the capital city to La Paz.  A short stop at a bank to exchange money, as well as a slice of Little Caesar’s pizza, put us on the road again.

The landscapes of mountains, tall pine trees, and homes dotting the hillside were astonishing to view.  The gooseneck turns from hill to hill, as well as a slow down for traffic accident reminded us of the reality of everyday life in this rugged land.  Finally, we came to La Paz, a town of wide streets, and attractive store fronts.  We relaxed at our hotel room before enjoying Mexican tacos at the nearby restaurant.

We finished the evening at the home and church home of Pastor Junior and Rosa.  As they invited us in, we saw the pride and excitement that missional service was adding to the message shared about the love of Christ.  We were reminded about how our sincere witness would strengthen the belief of what Jesus has done for us.  We completed the setup for the eyeglass clinic that will begin on Saturday.  We look forward to seeing new friends to join us from Wisconsin.  And we wait to watch what our Savior will do in this community tomorrow.  As Alysia said in our evening devotion, we will learn what we have to give and what we discover in our giving through our faith that He will make our paths straight and hearts anew.
